Tab Birt is a glass artist originally from Tulsa Oklahoma, he first found the medium of blown glass at a Chihuly Exhibit at the Virginia Marine Science Museum as a child. In September of 2022 he finally took his first experience at Third Degree Glass Factory in St. Louis and was immediately hooked, making time since then to work in the hot shop weekly. Tab uses blown glass to express experiences and feelings in his completed works, which vacillate between conceptual and technical. Currently, Tab’s primary interest lie in functional art and drinkware. Tab is drawn to glass as a medium because of the challenges it presents to create something bigger, thinner, and better than was previously done. The technical progress made is evident between finished works, and is nearly as rewarding to Tab as the finished pieces themselves.
